1. How to extract images from a PDF online
Getting the pictures out of a PDF with BlendPDF is almost entirely automatic — you pick the file, the tool finds the images, and you choose what to download. Here's the complete flow:

2. What format do the extracted images come in?
Every extracted image is delivered as a PNG file. This is a deliberate choice that prioritizes quality and universal compatibility.
Why PNG
PNG is a lossless format: saving an image as PNG never degrades it, no matter what. Whatever pixel data is stored inside your PDF — a photo, a screenshot, a scanned page — comes out with every pixel intact. PNG also supports transparency and opens everywhere: every browser, every operating system, every design and office application.
JPEGs Are Converted, Not Recompressed
Many PDFs store photos internally as JPEG. During extraction those are decoded once and written out as PNG — they are not run through another round of JPEG compression, so no additional quality is lost. The trade-off is file size: PNG represents photographic content less compactly than JPEG, so an extracted photo can be a noticeably larger file than the JPEG bytes inside the PDF, at identical visual quality.
Need JPEG or Another Format?

Consistent Naming

Vector Graphics Aren't Images

5. Why do I see fewer images than the PDF appears to contain?

Duplicates Are Extracted Once
PDFs reuse image resources: a company logo in the header of every page, a watermark, a repeated divider graphic. 6. Can I choose which images to download?

9. Is the image quality preserved?

15. What if extraction fails or produces errors?

The File Won't Open
Check the basics first: the file must be a valid PDF under 50MB. Files merely renamed to .pdf, incomplete downloads, and corrupted documents fail to parse. Confirm the file opens in a normal PDF viewer; if it does but the tool still rejects it, re-saving from that viewer often repairs minor structural damage.
Password-Protected Files
